Succession Planning

Business succession planning is one of the specialist services WHK provides to its clients.

As part of its commitment to the Region, WHK is rolling out a succession planning program to assist and guide small business owners to grow their business and plan their future.

Adam Volcov specialises in business succession planning and is responsible for delivery of the small business program. To help small business owners with the legal aspects of growing their business and planning their future, WHK worked with MacDonnells Law to jointly present seminars and workshops being held over 2007 & 2008.

Adam Volcov is a finance specialist who has over 12 years experience as an Accountant and Business Adviser working alongside leading global and local accounting firms. Adam joined the WHK Cairns team where he works with clients to develop succession plans for their business and implement business structures which meet commercial and tax requirements. Adam is a motivated adviser who also develops remuneration strategies for business owners and key employees. Protecting assets and maximising tax benefits are also his specialist areas.

What is Succession Planning?

Succession planning (sometimes called exit strategies) is the process of transferring the ownership and management of the business from the existing owners and managers to the next.

From a business owner’s perspective, exit strategies are a core component of succession that may take many forms, including:

  • Trade Sale
  • Management buy-out or buy-in
  • Selling the business to family members
  • Floating on the ASX
  • Introducing outside shareholders in return for private equity
